in the early eighties, i'd heard that tom seaver, then with the cincinnati reds, was an avid card collector....
so i gathered up three or four different cards that i had doubles of, and sent them all to him, asking him to sign one of each for me, and letting him know that he could have the others for his collection, "in case he didn't have them yet" ....he did indeed sign them and i instantly became a larger fan....i still have (someplace) a vhs tape of his first game as a red sox in 1986!
i loved how he seemed like a guy who worked extremely hard and was a superstar only because of his determination to work....and his classic drop and drive style....the '77 card prominently diplays his trademark dirty knee...sometimes cards truly tell the story of the player
~~the PACK OF CARDS series~~
growing up i was obsessed with baseball cards
i collected as many as i could get my hands on, and i studied them!
the artwork, the stats, everything, i couldn't get enough
literally every dime i made on my paper route went to cards
baseball cards taught me about math, statistics, economics, spelling,
geography, graphic design, on and on....
and they became an integral part of my love for the game
in this series, i will be revisiting and reimagining some of my favorite cards.
each piece of original art will be framed along with the original card,
double, sometimes triple matted, with museum glass
(there won't be any prints made, just the originals)
i'll add progress pics so you can follow the creation of each piece
